Bleu Sage to replace Backdoor Bakery

Lots of work has been going on in the old Backdoor Bakery space on Silver Lake Blvd., prepping for the opening of Bleu Sage Cafe. Modem hair salon's Myrna Marin owns the building and will presumably be running the restaurant as well with Jennifer Frankovis. Venice's Ilan Dei Studio has a handy video of the design on their site, and describes the restaurant as green dining that's "modern, earth-friendly and fresh." A beer and wine license is pending, and an earlier community meeting approved the restaurant as long as they contract with nearby businesses for some extra parking, recommending also that they network with Lamill, Reservoir, Spaceland, etc. about traffic and other concerns at the busy intersection.
In this economic climate, projects like Bleu Sage and Reservoir next door are getting off the ground very gradually indeed. We're awaiting word from Marin on a projected opening date.

I'm thinkin', cynic that I still am, of starting a new betting pool: "Resto Hype Bingo"! Upon the first announcement of a potential new L.A. restaurant's name and "concept"*, you bet on the number of days before the actual real opening. "Infinity" (i.e., "It'll never happen") will be a permissible betting line.

"Soft" openings don't count; re-naming or re-concepting before the hard opening = a win for "infinity" betters.

*Restaurants that really have no announced "concept", beyond, e.g., "We're going to sell tacos", are not eligible, as being without sufficient hype, unless they have an annoyingly clever name (e.g., NOT "Samniego's Tacos")

Loyal Silver Lakean says: Do you think Back Door Bakery customers will actually set foot in Bleu Sage or are they still in rage over how Myrna kicked out the bakery, giving them 30 day notice over the Christmas holidays to vacate the premises? Sounds like a lot of Silver Lakeans will be boycotting Bleuk Sage.

This Silverlake dweller won't set foot in the new place. I'm still hoping the Back Door will find a new home. Deb and Reno, where are you?!

What happened? Are they ever going to open?

The reality is this... the bakery played the cards their own way, and the legal proceedings between modem and backdoor is their own issue- not bleu sage's! It's sad to see so many people holding grudges against a restauranteur that is genuinely concerned with the quality of the food, the impact they will have on the environment, and the relationship they wish to build with the community! It is really weird to see the reactions from a community that is supposed to be the "innovation" area of LA...? Bleu Sage seeks to influence small business, support local farmers, and provide a comfortable environment for the local community! You go Jen

hmm, that's weird, i thought modem owner and blue sage owner were the same. That would make them directly involved and directly responsible for our huge loss in Silver Lake.

Any word on the backdoor cafe?
