Fresh & Easy coming soon to Alhambra

I have no idea why, but the post I did when Fresh & Easy opened in Glassell Park continues to get more comments than pretty much anything else on EatingLA. Is it spam? Who knows, but mostly the commentors seem to love it. Anyway, for all those rabid commenters, Fresh & Easy is also moving in to Alhambra soon on Main St. across from Target and King Hua. For me, it's of no use -- I do maybe 75% of my shopping at Trader Joe's, 15% at farmer's markets and 10% at Ralph's or Pavilions with occasional forays to Whole Foods and various ethnic markets, so I don't need to add another kind of market to the mix. But apparently it makes sense for some people. So enjoy.

Fresh n Easy may replace Trader Joes for you in some respects. It did for me.

Well, that's exactly the problem -- "in some respects." You can only replace something if it's in all respects. Otherwise, it's adding another store to the rotation. I know they carry some similar products and have some good prices, but there's 30 or 40 things I count on being able to get at TJs.

F&E is NOTHING Special-Stick to TJ's

Fresh & Easy is also taking over the former Wild Oats Market on Lake at California in Pasadena. Maybe they will find a place in the valley one year!

If all goes according to plan, Tesco will lose faith in the F&E model and will bail out of the U.S. within two or three years. IOW, don't get too familiar with the place...

i'm actually excited about this opening. It's w/in walking distance from my house so i don't have to use the car. Also, if it's just as good at TJ's then I'm all for it. But we shall see.

I wrote a post about the F&E in Eagle Rock. It was NOT glowing. I, too, have received more comments on that post than I have for any other! Either you love the place, or hate it. Since there's not one in my neighborhood, I'll still be going to my ghetto Von's and Trader Joe's!

Bleh...I don't think F&E compares at all to TJs! It's so boring and the food isn't all that healthy! Take all the character out of TJs and thats F&E. I can't imagine someone going there as a replacement.

I dunno; at present I go to TJ's only for the cheap fresh apple juice - F&E is now my go-to market because I DON'T go to either TJ's or F&E for prepared food but rather staples (milk, soymilk, butter, eggs, fruit, cereal) and F&E has it all over TJ because their prices are cheap and they have tons of parking. All the TJs close to my house (ie, Eagle Rock, Pasadena, Silver Lake, Glendale, South Pasadena) have hideously unnavigable parking lots, and it's just not worth going mano-a-mano with some idiot in a giant SUV (or a Mini) for their five parking spaces. Also, there are virtually no lines at F&E because there are no checkers. Forgive me, but to me F&E is the future of city living.
