Questions for Eating L.A.: Indian and cobbler

Shannon asks, "Do you know anything about the new Sila I have seen the new sign they put up."
Frank and Ray, who own Sila at Griffith Park Blvd. and Hyperion, are the same owners as the former Fritzie's. Their new menu is up at the Sila website, and there's some items like organic chicken and wild salmon that show that chef has helped spiff up the menu somewhat. Note to Frank and Ray: Might want to proofread the menu before publishing it.

C & R ask: "Indian in Pasadena? please."
My knowledge is not that up to date, because I've nearly given up on Indian food in L.A. I used to go to both All Indian Cafe and Akbar, they seemed pretty interchangeable and lackluster. As far as somewhat related cuisines, I haven't heard the best things about Tibet Nepal House and Azeen's Afghani either. Does anyone have a better suggestion?

and one more...
Esther asks: Where can a person find some really tasty Peach Cobbler, preferably closeish to Echo Park? Pasadena would be o.k., but the beach communities would be a drag to drive to. Looking for some yummy tips!"
I wasn't blown away by the cobbler at The Park, but the other food was good, and it's right in Echo Park, so that's the best place to start.
Your best bet might be The Gourmet Cobbler Factory in Pasadena, and also check the Atwater Farmers Market.

Indian in Pasadena is pretty weak, but New Delhi Palace on Colorado & Mentor isn't bad. Considerably better than Akbar, moderately better than All India, but nowhere near, say, Makkah.

I'd really recommend a trip to the Westside for India's Oven on Beverly past La Brea. Affordable and pretty authentic tasting-they actually have Indian people working there, imagine that!

Akbar is really the only good (yet overpriced) Indian spot in Pasadena.

I've also heard that India's Sweets & Spices in Los Feliz is good, but mostly because it's reaallly inexpensive.

I'll give New Delhi Palace a nod as well. Not out of this world, but I definitely think it is better than Akbar or All-India.

India Sweets and Spices can be great depending on what you order. The stuff behind the counter is fine, but try ordering a masala dosa, a South India specialty. Pretty damn good, and I grew up eating them!

I think about the best Indian take-away in L.A. is Halal Tandoori (4th & Vermont). Do not miss the Shrimp Tikka Masala. Their sag paneer is also excellent and their nan is divine.

I heartily recommend Mezbaan for Indian food in Pasadena. The food is tasty, the prices reasonable, and the parking is free!

Hey Thanks Pat: We've updated our menu on the site. One correction though: the menu/wine list/ concept & decor are completely new; not just updated. W/ the exception of the owners - Ray & Frank we're just getting a little older.

I'll second the recommendation for Mezbaan. It's definitely my fave in Pasadena for Indian. I like All India for their lunch specials, but they're not that great for dinner. Mezbaan is consistently good.

I like Surya on 3rd near the Farmers mrkt. Not Pasadena, I know, but worth the trip just for tandoori seabass.

I've had great cobbler at Auntie Em's in Eagle Rock, but they only do seasonal fruits so there's no guarantee you'll get peach.

Thanks for the cobbler tips. I will go try soon.

Does anyone remember Green's - I think it was on Yucca? They had the best peach cobbler, and all you can eat fried chicken and greens and corn bread - back when I ate chicken. I over looked the roaches because the food was so good. heh.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Esther

I recently had dinner at Sila Bistro in Silverlake and it was AMAZING!
