Seafood Village: A cacaphony of crabs

I must confess, we didn't actually get the crab at Seafood Village in Monterey Park. I know that's the specialite de la maison and all, but somehow dissasembling hunks of crab showered in garlic seems like more of a group activity, and Matt and I just wanted a bit of seafood, Chiu Chow style. What you see above is fried tofu with bamboo fungus, which is basically bath loofahs in a savory sauce. Matt had a hankering for fried rice (right), and the fluffy House special fried rice with bits of crab and dried scallops proved an excellent choice. Huge scallops garnished with deep-fried spinach leaves (left) were meaty and satisfying, although Chiu Chow style sauces tend to all be pretty similar. If this place wasn't so crowded and so incredibly loud, it would be a fine place to pop in for a spot of seafood. We lucked out getting a table since there were only two of us, but larger parties could be in for a wait.
