New York Times does Sunset Junction

Following on the heels of some glossy Japanese magazine that devoted double page spreads to Intelligentsia, the sneaker store and Secret Headquarters (they have a copy on display at Intelligentsia), the New York Times visits Sunset Junction and gets it mostly right. The only thing I'm not sure about is what all those "buzzing clubs on Fountain" are (I guess Little Temple?) and whether the Cheese Shop of Beverly Hills would agree that the Cheese Shop of Silver Lake is "easily the best fromagerie in the city."
The NYT certainly hearts LA...just a few days ago, they did 36 hours in Hollywood for the second time in 18 months.

Some things are better kept secret....

Yeah, not bad. But what The Times writer and/or fact checker got wrong -- just like many people often do -- is the name of the neighborhood. "Silver Lake" is TWO WORDS, people!

It's funny that the NYT Travel section seems to get us...both the Hollywood and Silverlake article were very good with places that are popular with locals, while articles in the Dining section are mostly horrendous. What gives?

-Anonymous, what things are those? Some sort of private clubs on Fountain I'm not cool enough to know about?
-Thank you Jess, very good point on Silver Lake being two words.
-Sku, I think the Travel section is fairly open to freelancers, some of whom live in the neighborhood and others who call people like me when they come to town to at least do some research.

There is no way that an article written about Silver lake and especially Sunset Junction coulod ever leave out Casbah Cafe_ This Cafe has been the leading magnet to this area for the past ten years. Obviously even the N.Y.Times can be corrupted by big business...that actually maybe a small business can be a very large threat to the corporate giants (Inteligencia). LEAVING CASBAH OUT COULDN'T BE MORE TELLING!

Couldn't agree with you more!
I guess Casbah is a HUGE threat to Intellgensia, as it has been over looked in a most obvious way. I was looking at the Intelligensia website and funny enough this is the same NYT writer that has written pieces on Intelligensia before, maybe he gets paid in coffee!!
They really should have locals write the articles.
SHAME ON YOU, NEW YORK TIMES!

Intelligentsia as Starbucks is the future feared for ages for the US by Americans: impersonal, frozen “friendly”, robotic systems, faux "perfect" ambiance, corporate monster that becomes more and more unattainable at it matures, transformation to insipid neighborhoods, commercialy correct, delivering a “perfect product” and a good balance sheet, ultimately in Wall street, which forgives for the majority of the “addicts” duly pampered, the immense human disaster of…uniformity
