Yes, apparently KP's Deli is closing...their lease was not renewed. Very sad news since the people there were so nice, and it's not easy to find a decent bahn mi in this neck of the woods.
Matt was already worried when they discontinued the beef jerky bahn mi, but this is really too bad.
After Thursday, you can try Soy Cafe, a bit further down Hyperion. They have lemongrass chicken and tofu bahn mi for around $5 -- not completely traditional, but pretty good.
Gingergrass also has bahn mi -- anyone tried them?
Or, you could be pioneering, and open a franchise of the yummy Baguette Express...please!

I know, totally sad about KP's! KP is such a sweetie and his banh mis are gigantic and yummy.
About Gingergrass, we have actually tried their beef banh mi, which is, I suppose, not traditional, but delicious all the same.
I hope KP has plans for some other venture as his bahn mi's kicked Gingergrass' ass!
i happened to stop in yesterday for lunch and discovered the bad news!! we go regularly for the "wheat meat" sandwich and i have NO idea where i'm going to find that now...
the girl working the counter said that KP is going to take some time off for a while....I want to convince him to re-open in Highland Park!
I'm planning a move to LA in the near future from NYC and I anticipate trying to find a good Vietnamese restaurant and Banh Mi Deli place there...so i stumbled on your site. Great work....i'm sure to frequent this blog more as my stomach follows me to LA...
just an update (for those of you as bummed out by this as i am...)
my bf was just there and said:
"KP was there and I told him to open again in Highland Park, he said that was what everyone was telling him, and didn't seem against the idea, so maybe?!?!?"
everyone urge KP to re-open!
that place always smelled funny...
