Something different: Breakfast for dinner

Eating L.A. was invited to sample something different at Noe last night. Chef Glen Ishii, who recently took over as executive chef from the departed Robert Gadsby, is doing a Breakfast for Dinner tasting menu July 15-August 14. We started with an amuse of asparagus panna cotta, followed by lobster quiche with grapefruit. Next up were banana pancakes (pictured), topped with foie gras and peppered strawberries with a nice spicy bite. I could easily eat a plate of these for breakfast anytime! The main course was either a filet of beef topped with a truffled fried egg and potatoes with tasty little bits of kielbasa; or an original bagel bread pudding with smoked salmon and capers. For dessert, homemade doughnuts with strawberries and cream. We all went wild for Ishii's truffle butter spread on French rolls; just deliver a few pounds of this to the house, please. The tasting menu is $60 and can be paired with breakfasty cocktails like a mimosa with fresh-squeezed orange juice, a greyhound, a zesty bloody mary or an Irish coffee. Ishii plans to unveil more changes now that he's taken over at Noe, both in menu and decor.
