Michelangelo, City Sip and soon, burgers on Hyperion

Although we haven't had time to check them out yet, there were at least two new developments in the hood this weekend: Michelangelo re-opened in the former Flor Morena space on Rowena, and CitySip wine bar opened on Sunset in Echo Park.
- Michelangelo is open for lunch and dinner every day and plans to begin serving brunch soon. For now, it's BYOB with no corkage.
- CitySip is open in Echo Park -- not sure if there's food available. Here's an early report, but I'll reserve judgement until I see for myself.
Also coming soon, Comfort Cafe on Hyperion (next to BodyBuilder's gym) is closed and will re-open as The Fix (a little confusing, with Fix Coffee just opened in Echo Park.) Perhaps the Bodybuilder's breakfast was just a little too healthy, as The Fix will feature burgers, fries and shakes. Well, at least it's not more pizza.

mattatouille makes a good point... this 'gourmet burger' craze that has overtaken manhattan and now threatens to head west - burger joints dressed up in the trappings of a simple old-style diner but with fine-dining price points.. is a concern (if not an outright annoying affront. the charm of a good burger is that it's comfort food. tasty. guilty. unambitious. quick. relatively inexpensive. for me it ruins the whole experience if it's overpriced... if i want to spend $15 to $20 on meat, i'll get a steak at a moderately priced restaurant. if it costs over $20 to have a decent sized cheeseburger, fries and a shake, why bother?

p.s. does the Eating LA blogmaster know if this new joint is being run by the old owners/managers of comfort cafe or is it an entirely new enterprise with new connections?

nope, it is not being run by the former owner. which is unfortunate, because she probably would have chosen to add some healthy food, since its next to a GYM.
