Yet more vegan fare in Silver Lake

While ordering carne asada tacos at El Siete Mares over the weekend, we noticed that Cardone's Deli on Sunset has been replaced by a new place called The Vegan Spot. Don't get us wrong, we like some green stuff in-between liberal doses of carne asada. In fact, the post before this was about the Pure Luck, and the one after this will be about the new M Cafe de Chaya in Culver City. But there are seriously a lot of vegan places in Silver Lake and Echo Park already. (Cru, Flore Cafe, Elf, at least four Thai places, etc.) So we're just wondering, are there really that many vegans on the near-Eastside? Are there substantially more than in other areas, because the concentration of vegstaurants seems denser, kind of like the mac 'n fake cheese at some of these places.

i love vegan restaurants. i'm not even vegan, but it's so fun to see how they can replace "normal" foods with alternatives. i don't eat shrimp, for example, but i'd be down to taste fake shrimp some time! in weho, there's a yummy spot called Vegan Glory on Beverly.

More more MORE! I love all these Vegan restaurants popping up in the Silverlake area! My favorite so far is "Vegan House" on Sunset -- the food is ridiculously delicious, and pretty dang cheap as well. The more, the merrier, the healthier, the more environmentally beneficial, the thinner, the lower cholesterol, the compassionate, etc, etc!!!

Too bad about Cardone's Deli closing. I liked their meatball sandwiches.

I just read something the other day that grossed me out so badly I've stopped eating meat. And I am a rare prime rib kinda gal. But it's clear that animals are tortured while alive at slaughterhouses, so better to skip it. so yes, MORE VEGETARIAN or vegan restaurants please!!!! And I live in Silver Lake.

Vegan restaurants aren't just for vegans anymore. They cater to even the staunchest meat eater. But, yes, I think there are plenty of vegheads on the Eastside to fill all the restaurants. More more more, like someone said.

Go veg!

sorry, not to be a downer (and speaking as someone who used to be a vegetarian for 7 years), but it sort of irks me that there's this deluge of vegan places popping up EVERYWHERE in Silverlake. Can't we have a nice healthy variety of normal eateries of different cuisines without having a vegan place every single block? (literally. Every block. It's getting SO annoying) I don't mind one or two vegan places, but it's gotten slightly out of hand.

I don't really get why it "irks" you, descant girl. It's not like you have to eat at any of the vegan establishments and it's also not like there aren't a plethora of other restaurants for you to choose from, anywhere, anytime, anyplace.

I'm not trying to be argumentative at all. It just seems like a strange response, especially given that you used to be vegetarian.
