We heard that Mia Sushi owner Rudy Martinez might be taking over the Flor Morena space on Rowena, but Martinez says he wasn't able to seal a deal. Of course, since there's no liquor license, it would probably be a rough place to launch a sushi bar. So still Flor Morena sits unused, waiting for Famima, Clementine's or M Cafe de Chaya to take over...in my dreams.
However, Martinez did let us know that he'll be opening a new steaks 'n cocktails place in Highland Park in a few months. Marty's, named for his son (Mia is his daughter) will be on York a block or two from the Wild Hare. Carter let us know that it's the former El Chubasco bar location at 5137 York Blvd.

I heard through Melanie (owner of Edendale) that owner of Flor Morena is going to remodel and reopen herself in another incarnation. I pray this is a vicious rumor :(
OK, here's the plan: Coffee Table moves into the Flor Morena space, consolidating with the "Frankl9n Hills Cafe" guys, if they're still around, They stay there until the new space on Rowena is built. Given the "getting restaurants open" curse which seems to be infecting Silverlake environs, the Pinkberry, presently slated to go where Wok Ave used to be, may not open before the fad dies, in which case we can get another Chinese place, or a Thai place into THAT space. If it succeeds, then they can move into the Flor Morena space when Cofee table moves back out.
Or maybe they can put Pinkberry into the Flor Morena space, which at least has SOME parking...
Ohhh can't wait for the steak house. HP needs something like this..
Thank you Mr. Martinez, for giving us real restaurants in NELA
Highland Park, on the way up! I already know I will be a regular there!
My friend tried to lease the Flor Morena place for a sushi take out place and he was told they were going to reopen the same Flor Morena there.
Is this owner the same Rudy Martinez that appeard on TLC, the investor?
