More news

Coming to Atwater: Indochine Cafe, a Vietnamese spot opening soon in the godforsaken stripmall on Glendale Blvd. housing all of life's necessities: Krispy Kreme donuts, Coldstone Creamery ice cream, a cell phone store, a nail salon and a check cashing place.

There's also a new ramen place in downtown Glendale, but I haven't checked it out yet.

The New York Times had a beautiful Living section on Sunday. If you missed it, it's available online. Here's an article on discovering ingredients like nettles, panko and mulato chili.

Also notable were stories on underground dinner parties, Boulette's Larder and sake in San Francisco and frozen custard. How is it that the NY Times usually manages to cover the rest of the country better than the rest of the country covers itself?

I hike a lot and have tangled with so many nettles that there is no way I can eat them. I cannot forgive them for the utter screaming long-lasting pain they have caused me!

Where does one get Panko around here? I've yet to find it in any major supermarket, Smart & Final, or (surprisingly) Trader Joe's. I'm sure it's in specialty markets, but I'd sure like to see it lining the shelves of Albertsons.

Have you checked the Asian section of the supermarket? If not, you'll have to try a Japanese market, or perhaps Bristol Farms.

Yea, I always look in the Asian section, but to no avail. My latest attempt was about 25 minutes ago at the local Vons. Off to Bristol Farms it is, though I've been hoping to avoid that after-work drive through Pasadena. Still, this is food we're talking about and I'd better remember to keep my priorities straight!
