So cool...a Valentine's Day idea

These super-chic sushi-shaped candies are from a company in San Jose called Suedy's Koo-ki Sushi. I read about them on a fun Silver Lake blog called Avant-Garde Retard, which always has the best in funny Asian toys and local food chat. They also have cool pink chocolate Japanese cats and will do mail order for Valentine's Day.

My sister gave me that exact box for Christmas. The "sushi" is lovely, a real delight to look at, but unfortunately it doesn't taste quite as good as it looks. That is to say, it's not bad, but the flavors and textures get repetitive. All of the individual sushis are made of the same crisped rice base, and the tops are also mostly some form of white chocolate, a little sweetish for my taste. Koo-ki Sushi makes a wonderful gift for its fun and cuteness value, but you'd definitely be buying the stuff for looks and not taste.

IMHO.

I'd much rather get the actual sushi than candy that looks like it.

I know, they're probably not worth it. But I admire the craftsmanship. One's chocolate money is better spent on chocolate, and one's sushi money at Sushi Gen.
