Radhika's expands to South Pasadena

Radhika's, which used to have a location in Pasadena, is opening a "modern Indian bistro" in the Mission Ave. space formerly occupied by the Little Parlor and 750 ML. It will certainly be the only Indian spot in the immediate area -- did anyone trie Radhika's when it was on Shopper's Lane where the Counter is now?

The Radhikas in Pasadena closed and is now The Counter. I think this is more of a move than an expansion.

Oh, I forgot to answer your question. Yes the food was pretty good there. I was bummed when they closed in Pasadena.

This is good news! I'd heard good things about Radhika's and I was sad that they were closed before I got to try them.

How funny, I just saw this sign this morning after getting coffee at Heirloom. I'm excited for something new to move into the area, especially if it's good Indian.

I'm a little curious what they mean by "modern" Indian. Skimpy portions? Anyone know?

I went to Radhika's back at Shopper's Lane, the food, portions and prices were decent but nothing particularly outstanding... I did remember the obnoxious server and manager who kept trying to upsell us all over. Hope they're a bit less salesperson-y this time around.

I remember Radhika's being overpriced with weird service. They should open in South Pas under a new name.

Hi Pat,

Thanks for the info. I hope this place is better than the previous incarnation (from what the comments section is saying).

We first ate at Radhika's when they were on Main in Alhambra and continued to enjoy the very good food and service when they move to Shopper's Lane in Pasadena. It was our favorite Indian Restaurant in the greater Pasadena area.

By the way, my view of what they mean by modern is that some of the dishes use unusual combinations of food, e.g., seafood, not found on traditional Indian menus. Most dishes, however, are traditional.

We were frequent visitors to Radhika's luncheon buffet and thought the food and service were excellent. Good news for South Pasadena!

I always really liked Radhika's when they were on Shoppers' Lane. The service could be a tad slow, but the food was really good. I look forward to trying their new location.

At one time Radhikas also had a second Pasadena location on Raymond which did not last too long. For an Indian restaurant, their menu prices were higher than average but so was the quality of the food they served. I wish them success in their So. Pas. location.

Their food is not bad until you order it spicy. It was literally sprinkled with red chilly powder when I wanted my dish spicy. True they got it right (j/k), but my definition of spicy is a different. This is 3/4 years back. I never went back to that location in Pasadena after that.

This was our favorite Indian restaurant in the area. We haven't found a good replacement since it closed, and we're really excited to see it open around the corner from us!

We were so bummed when they closed in Pasadena. We tried many Indian places but they all paled in comparison. Now they're opening just a block away! Yay!!!

Tried it out. Excellent! More compact menu, at least for now. Had saag paneer and aloo gobi, our favorites from the old place and still the same. Tried the ribs, which were really good. Small space, so it could get crowded.

YAY!!! Radhika's was my absolute favorite restaurant, period. I was so upset when it closed. Now we'll be able to go back!

It was my favorite Indian restaurant and I was SO BUMMED when it closed. I have been to the new location twice. They're incredibly nice people with the same superior (dare I say - even better?) food than before, though I wish they had a couple of more traditional dishes. Still, Chicken Tikka Masala ALL THE WAY!

The only way I could begin to comprehend a positive review for this restaurant, is to imagine that the reviewers believe that Red Lobster serves great quality seafood. I've cooked way better meals out of boxed product, in fact the chicken in the biryani was reminiscent of chicken from a box. It wasn't even basmati rice used for the biryani. Wow, what a disappointment. Better yet, what a shame to call this Indian food.

We went to Radhika for the first time at the new location in South Pasadena, in 4/2011. I went with my teenage kids and a guest from NYC. The best Indian food ever! And my friend from NYC agrees. I will call it gourmet Indian, if I may. Was a little pricey, but the atmosphere was warm, friendly and engaging. The owner spent some time with us at our table and we had a wonderful conversation with the people sitting at the next table. All in all a great experience and will go again. In fact, maybe tonight!
