Wolfgang Puck unveils Oscar food: Smoked salmon and chocolate statuettes

Will Oscar winners be happy with Wolfgang Puck's menu for the Governors Ball after the Oscars? At the this morning's press conference, Puck, Lee Hefter, Matt Bencivenga and Sherry Yard unveiled a retro-themed menu to fit with the Streamline Modern decor for the March 7 ball at Hollywood and Highland.

Appetizers include:
- crackers and smoked salmon cleverly shaped like Oscar himself
- Raw bar including stone crab claws from Joe's Stone Crabs in Miami
- Kobe cheeseburgers
The main course is a chicken pot pie with Yukon Gold potatoes, heirloom vegetables and truffles.
Dessert is the usual gold-dusted chocolate Oscars as well baked Alaska, filled with chocolate sorbet and topped with espresso glace and toasted meringue.

But...it's entirely possible that excited winners and willowy thesps will bypass most of the food, opting just to drink the Moet et Chandon 2003 champagne at each table.

Although I'm not sure if Puck's annual party is for Oscar Winner's solely--the food is free, and the menu sounds great.

So when in Rome, do as the Romans do--enjoy!

Seriously, Wolfgang's menu and appetizers sound fabulous.

And as the previous poster said, and which I share the same sentiment; I'd be happy to eat that spread too.

I just went to Spago for the first time in LA. It is a Wolfgang restaurant. I wish this dish was there then because I was not overly impressed with the food I had. I had the short ribs. The soap starter I had was amazing though!!

Isn't this the same menu he did last year?? And the year before that? Maybe some minor modifications, but sounds eerily similar to what he serves them every year. Come on, Wolfie, we know you're busy, but phoning it in much??

Fun story. If guests aren't happy with Joe's stone crab claws, please pass to the left.

wolfgang doesnt really make the menu. i work for the company. he is just the face. he dont make the menu's at his restaurants. lee Hefner makes them. matt bencivenga heads off the catering department. wolfie comes in, drinks wine, and smiles for the camera. but he is a funny dude.

First of all, have you all tasted Wolfgang Pucks menus?

I'd telling you first hand, gold dusting or statue shapes don't matter! You would be won over in the dark from the aroma alone!

But along the lines of REALLY crazy Oscar feasts, an LA chef friend says there's a chap on You tube who has this very silly (and probably equally tasty) Oscar menu he cooks up every year!

Beleive me, I'm not an interent geek, but you should look at it if you want a "delicious" laugh:

Wolfgang and every movie-foodie would LOVE this!
