While this weekend is the glitzy L.A. Food and Wine festival packed with celebrity chefs from out of town and dozens of events, next weekend's The Taste has a somewhat more local flavor. Unspooling over Labor Day weekend with a manageable five events, it's hosted by the L.A. Times -- meaning a chance to meet food writers including Jonathan Gold, Russ Parsons, Betty Hallock, Jessica Gelt et al. Co-hosts are L.A.'s own star chefs Michael Cimarusti (Providence, Connie & Ted's) and Sang Yoon (Father's Office, Lukshon).
Here's what's on tap at Paramoount Studios:
Opening night, Friday Aug. 30: This is the deluxe event, with restaurants including Fishing with Dynamite, Plan Check, Paiche, Angelini Osteria, plenty of Don Julio tequila and a Beatles tribute band.
Saturday, Aug. 31: Field to Fork: Wine tastings, a secret wine cellar, and a Sustainable Seafood panel are highlights with restaurants including Momed, Canele, Farmshop, Good Girl Dinette and Loteria.

Sunday night, Cocktail Confidential: Mixologist Matthew Biancaniello, Betty Hallock and Jessica Gelt host an adult-oriented evening with restaurants including Cliff's Edge, Bulgarini Gelato, Takami Sushi and Mexikosher.
