Weekend to-do: Pickles and Savor the Season

Pickle me this...
On Saturday, Sept. 20 from 1-4 p.m. Machine Project hosts a pickle-making event in Echo Park, hosted by Erik Knutzen and Kelly Coyne from homegrownevolution.com and Mark Frauenfelder from dinosaursandrobots.com (and BoingBoing!). Bring jars and fruits or vegetables to pickle, as well as extra produce from your garden (does parsley count?)
(Photo above is from a New York Times story on Kool-aid pickles.)
A savory way to combat domestic violence
On Sunday, Savor the Season comes to the Vibiana Downtown for a benefit from 6-9 p.m. featuring some great L.A. tastes. Chef Andre Guerrero, left, of The Oinkster and Max is the honorary host chef, so between Andre and providers including Saltistry, Beverly Hills Caviar, The Edison, Tasca wine bar, Tanzore and more, there should be plenty of food and drink to sample.
Break the Cycle works to fight domestic and dating violence among youth.

Machine Project does lots of fun things like this (as well as serious stuff too). I think it was last year that they did a "deep fry" event where you could bring anything and deep fry it.
